40 years and on

This week I turned 40. As I am not the first one to whom this has happened the news is not here. But my wonderful wife took me for a treat at Noma in Copenhagen. This restaurant has been voted twice in a row “Best in the World” in 2010 and 2011.

I had taken with me a small camera but didn’t inend to do mcuh during the meal I was prepared to enjoy it and foret the camera. Well I almost did but as the atmorsphere was very relaxeded, at tables you could see the flash of people cameras or phone. This is certainely more relaxed that at same place in Switzerland and France where you can hear the flies in the air.

The menu was divided in 2 parts, the first one with the starters, flying onto the table each after ones.  Potato and chicken liver, Cookies and cheese, rocket and sterms, Herb toast with smoked cod roe and Rye with chicken skin and peas

For the main the service slow down but not the creativity as you can with the six dishes below :

Pickled vegetables with bone marrow, Razor Clam with parsley dill and horse radish, Squid and unripe sloe berry with white currrant and pine, Cauliflower and pine cream and horse radish, Pike Perch in cabbages verbena and dill, Wild duck with beets beech and malt.

At the end we had 22 dishes and spent a wonderful long time enjoying them. One of the highlight is taht we choose to get the juice drinks instead of the wine selection.A much lighter during the meal was a good experience. I really enjoyed the cooks coming directly to the table to introduce their dishes.

Thanks to Sally again and to my parents for looking after cheeky Basile. And to Copenhagen for being such a nice city.

Prix de Lausanne for young dancers

This week took place one of my favorite event the Prix de Lausanne for young dancers.

I will save you the details you can find them all on their website but this year was specially nice with the extreme cold weather hitting Europe. It was a nice feeling to be indoor for a few hours. Wearing a t-shirt was compulsary as the room was 25 C or something close.

The above picture didn’t make it to my selection for Reuters as it was too close to the final start but I llike the feeling of it in BW.

You can view a slideshow of this year pictures on Reuters archives website.

Au Bord du Grand Chemin – Somewhere a Tree

The gallery of one of my personal project called “Au Bord du Grand Chemin” that  I have translated into “Somewhere a Tree” has been updated with the latest pictures from 2010 and 2011.

Started many years ago with an old Rolleicord 6×6 camera and an Horseman field camera, this project was at first a creativity challenge to me. Turning around a tree. Also it was at the early stage of the digital era and I was keen on shooting with BW film. Although my standard format was 35 mm, I have been shooting it on 120 format. I have since then used the excellent Kodak T-Max 100 asa and can’t think of them not producing it anymore.I have not yet done anything with those pictures apart from the webite. As for many things I wait for what I feel the right moment. Maybe an exhibition in a field next to it, maybe somewhere else. You can go to the site and enjoy them here.

For the GPS expert here are the Google maps points

Best Wishes for 2012

Moon over Naye

Full Moon over Rochers-de-Naye

Hello everyone,

As a first message for this blog I would like to send you all my bests wishes for a happy 2012.

I will chat here about my professional career at Reuters but also about my personnal projects in photography :

  • Landscapes in Scotland
  • Au Bord du Grand Chemin (the life and start of death of a tree near Lausanne in Switzerland)
  • The Pursuit of Unsharpiness, a new project looking through my camera at wrong focus

And also my casual quest for the perfect dram of malt whisky, tasting many great water of life bottles.

In the meantime the main website has been redesigned (or designed as the first attempt was not gracious) Most of the galeries have changed.

I can only encourage you to go and have a look : www.denisbalibouse.ch

Of course all that comes up here is personnal and does not reflect my employer Reuters !
