BIO
Born 1972 in Lausanne, Switzerland, self-taught photographer Denis Balibouse started working with local newspapers in 1987.
From September 1990 to April 2002 he was a photojournalist for Jean-Bernard Sieber’s Lausanne-based ARC agency, collaborating with daily and weekly Swiss publications (24 Heures, Le Matin, Le Temps, dimanche.ch, Le Blick, Tages Anzeiger, L’Hebdo, La Liberté and Construire) on local, regional and international stories, covering sports, culture and politics. He also shot local and international events for Reuters during this time.
In November 2000 he won the Swiss Press Photo prize (Sport and Leisure category), sponsored by Kodak.
September 2001 saw the publication of his black-and-white photography book Weather Report, along with the exhibition of the same name at the Black and White gallery in Lutry, Switzerland. Both of these highlighted almost a decade of photographing countries such as Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
From 2002, he worked for clients such as Reuters and Red Bull, for whom he shot sporting events in Switzerland and the rest of Europe.
In 2007 he joined Reuters full time, working in the western Switzerland region, although he also works on international assignments such as the Tour de France and the FIFA World Cup.
